This extensive Kenyan safari is perfect for families and couples in search of an active trip and a holiday of a lifetime. The ever-changing scenery, as you move from high plateaux to lowland forest and river systems, will captivate your imagination.
You’ll have ample opportunity to see some the big five of African safari:

ITINERARY:
Day 1: Nairobi – Samburu National Reserve (320 km, 5 to 6 hours)
You begin your African safari adventure with a drive from Nairobi and out to the central highlands of Kenya. The journey affords you awe-inspiring views across Mount Kenya as you enter Samburu National Reserve.
After lunch has been served you will have your first experience of a game drive. Within Samburu there are some rare species, including
- Beisa oryx
- Blue-necked Somali ostrich
- Grevy’s zebra
- Reticulated giraffe
As well as a large population of elephants that spend their time by the mighty Ewaso Nyiro River.
After your first outing into the plains of Kenya, you will return to your lodge or camp for dinner and a chance to refuel before you first full day on safari in Kenya.

Day 2: Full Day in Samburu National Reserve
Named after the local volcanic peak, Samburu is a diverse habitat with riverine forests, palm groves, and grasslands home to millions of animals. You will head out into the park after breakfast, on the look out for the rare and wonderful animals you’d searched for the previous evening.
With four fresh water springs around the park, chances of seeing grazing animals is high, with hippo encounters a distinct possibility. Your expert African safari guide will be able to help track and identify the wildlife you encounter.

Day 3: Samburu National Reserve – Olpejeta Conservancy (147 km, 2 to 3 hours)
Your morning drive takes you to Ol Pejeta Conservancy, a place for the animals of the wild to receive protection from those who would wish to harm them for their horns. Here, you’ll find the largest sanctuary for black rhinos in the world, along with the only home for chimpanzees in Kenya. The sanctuary, ran by the famous Jane Goodall Institute, allows you to come face to face with our closest cousins.
You’ll arrive at this wonderful home for endangered animals in time for lunch, rest, and an afternoon game drive. The sun will be setting over the plains and watering holes as you return to camp for dinner. The luxury accommodation option evokes the times of the first safaris – a time when Teddy Roosevelt traveled thousands of miles to better understand the animals of Africa.

Day 4: Olpejeta Conservancy – Aberdares National Park (100 km, 2 to 3 hours)
An early breakfast precedes a morning game drive around Ol Pejeta, with another chance to see the protected animals living in the Laikipia Plateau. You’ll drive out of the park and across the countryside to continue your Kenyan safari in Aberdares National Park, arriving in time for lunch.
Aberdares presents you with a unique chance to visit tree lodges for bird watching – the park is home to over 250 species of bird. A late night, floodlit game viewing follows from the viewing decks of your accommodation before dinner is served.

Day 5: Aberdares National Park – Lake Nakuru National Park (128 km, 3 to 4 hours)
Breakfast is served early to get you back out into the park for a further game drive. Once you’ve had chance to spot such wildlife as

- Jackals
- Waterbucks
You’ll begin to move across the East Africa Rift Valley, to arrive at Lake Nakuru National Park in time for lunch.
Lake Nakuru is famous for it’s Pink Lake, so called due to its massive flocks of flamingo feeding on the algae that gives them their distinct magenta hues. Both black and white rhinos reside in the park, and your wildlife safari guide will help you in finding, watching, and photographing this sadly endangered mammal.
The fifth day of your African safari includes:

Day 6: Lake Nakuru National Park – Masai Mara National Reserve (300 km, 5 to 6 hours)
Moving on from Lake Nakuru after breakfast, you will drive through the great African Rift Valley to arrive at the Masai Mara. The landscapes along the way range from picturesque to majestic; be ready to drink the scenery in the heart of Kenya.
You’ll arrive in time for lunch, which is followed by an afternoon game drive. If you’re lucky enough to visit during the migrations, between July and October, you will be rewarded with the spectacle of herds of beasts traversing these rolling plains. No matter the time of year, the Masai Mara will treat you to best that African Safari has to offer, and more than you thought possible.

Day 7: Full Day in Masai Mara National Reserve
Home to more than 3 million animals, the Masai Mara is the stuff safari dreams are made of. After your breakfast you will spend the whole day following the animals that call these grasslands home, including
- Lions
- Leopards
- Elephants
- Buffalo
- Rhinos
And hundreds of other mammal and bird species.
Your lunch will be served picnic style, giving you as much time surrounded by this most stunning of natural habitats that you’re likely to encounter. Look out for hippos submerging in the Mara River, herds of wildebeest, Thompson’s and Grant’s gazelles; all expertly identified by your Kenyan safari guide. The day ends back at your accommodation, eating dinner whilst digesting the sights and sounds of your day in the Masai Mara.

Day 8: Masai Mara National Reserve – Lake Naivasha (215 km, 4 to 5 hours)
Breakfast starts the day, and you will have chance to say farewell to the beasts of the Serengeti on a morning game drive. You’ll arrive at Lake Naivasha for lunch, and the afternoon gives you the option of a boat ride on the lake to spot some of the smaller, yet no less stunning, fauna.
This trip to Crescent Island will be filled with herbivores. You can see zebras, hippos, giraffes, and a stunning array of birds that make this lake their home. Upon returning to your accommodation you’ll be served dinner before bedding down inside this nature reserve.

Day 9: Lake Naivasha – Amboseli National Park (310 km, 5 to 6 hours)
A drive through the Great African Rift Valley, with vistas to melt your heart, awaits you on your ninth morning. A long and easy drive to the Amboseli awaits you today. Amboseli is another great park of the Serengeti, home to migrations, wonderful wildlife, and the breath-taking Mount Kilimanjaro.
The mountain, the highest in Africa and highest free-standing mountain in the world, will form the backdrop of your trip in this part of Kenya. The animals of the savannas punctuate the landscape: lions, elephants, zebras, buffalo, leopards, to name just a few of the treats you’re likely to encounter on your afternoon game drive.

Day 10: Full Day in Amboseli National Park
An early breakfast gives you chance to start your game drive in the dawn light, where you can watch the energy of a new day unfold across the grasslands and rolling plains of Amboseli. The snow-capped peak of Kilimanjaro should be visible before the day’s clouds roll in to hug the peak.
Your whole day will be spent spotting the animals of the Serengeti with your expert guide. A picnic lunch in the park will ensure you don’t miss a beat of this glorious day surrounded by the mega-fauna this part of the world is famous for. Families of elephant range across the lands, herds of buffalo migrate to find sustenance, birds of prey circle to spot their next meal.
After a long day in the park you’ll return to your accommodation for dinner and a final overnight inside Amboseli National Park.

Day 11: Amboseli National Park – Tsavo west National Park (154 km, 3 to 4 hours)
Before departing from Amboseli, you have time for one last game drive after breakfast. Your trip progresses through the Kenyan countryside and brings you to Tsavo West National Park.
The rolling hills with rugged, rocky outcrops will be the frame for your photography and viewing in Tsavo – one of the oldest and largest of the national parks in Kenya. The Tsavo River cuts through the landscape, making the area luscious and green and wet enough to support reams of life.
After you have lunch, an afternoon game drive should present sightings of lions, rhino, and elephants on the ground and birdwatchers will be treated to flocks of lovebirds and the sacred ibis.

Day 12: Full Day in Tsavo West National Park
Tsavo is known as one of the most biodiverse habitats on the planet. The Tsavo River cuts through the park, bringing wetlands, forests, and savannas capable of supporting some of the most beautiful animals and plants you might ever witness.
Red elephant range through the grasses as leopards and cheetah race against their prey in the circle of life at the heart of African safari. You won’t skip a beat of the throbbing landscape as your lunch is served picnic style in the middle of the park.

Day 13: Tsavo West National Park – Nairobi, Mombasa or Diani (329 km, 6 to 7 hours)
The morning starts with breakfast, with a visit to the Mzima Springs next, in order for the morning’s wildlife safari. Here lives hippos, crocodiles and schools of exotic fish for you to round off your adventure.
From Tsavo you have the option to continue your journey to Mombasa or Diani and the Kenyan coast as it hits the Indian Ocean, or you can choose to return to your hotel or residence or even the airport in Nairobi, depending on your plans.
